MEDIA ADVISORY: Health care advocates in Whitehorse for Council of the Federation

Whitehorse, Y.T.  – Health care advocates from across Canada are gathering in Whitehorse at the Council of the Federation to send a strong message of support to put the heart back in health care. While the Ministers debate the Health Accord and a national drug plan, advocates are in town to urge the premiers and federal government to find a solution to inaccessible and unaffordable medicines and decreasing access to public health care services.

WHAT: Advocates are available for media interviews throughout the 3 days of meetings. On July 21st, there will be a walk and rally for a strong Health Accord and a national public drug plan. There will be a photo opportunity with a 6 ft tall inflatable medicines bottle containing a prescription for a national public drug plan.

WHEN: Thursday July 21st, 2016 9:45am- walk begins at Rotary Park 10:00am- rally begins with speeches from local and national representatives

WHERE:  Walk- Meet in Rotary Park, walk along the Millenium Trail and in front of the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre Rally- across from the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre, in front of the Lumel glass blowing studio*

WHO: Canadian Health Coalition with allies from provincial/territorial health coalitions, social justice organizations, and labour

Why: Premiers are in Whitehorse this week and topping their agenda along with the CPP will be health care. Health care advocates from across the country are vocalizing their support for a strong Health Accord, reinvestments in public health care, and an expansion of our current system to cover prescription medication.
